Asuka-mura, Okuyama
At this temple site, a large number of 7th century tiles have been unearthed, including the oldest extant onigawara (tiles decorating ends of roof ridges. most often sporting gargoyle or demon-face designs) which bear lotus patterns. Above the central foundation stone of the original pagoda there rises a 13-storey stone pagoda (sekito) from the Kamakura period.
