KOZENJI

Kashihara-shi, Kaige-cho

This temple is located at the foot of Kaguyama. In earlier times the mountain bore the alternative designation "Kozen," and it is thought that the name of the temple, though written in different characters, may have been chosen to reflect its geographical association with the mountain. Tile remains indicate that it was probably built in the latter half of the 7th century.
